The 6UK launch event has now taken place. The presentations are linked in the agenda below, and you can watch a video of Vint Cerf’s keynote on our blog.
Date: 11th November 2010
Venue: Imagination Gallery, 25 Store Street, London (Google map)
This event will launch 6UK to UK business, government, academia and Internet stakeholders. It will cover what IPv6 is, what the business case and strategies are and how the UK is positioned to take advantage of it. An overview of 6UK and panel session is designed to allow the audience to ensure that 6UK will meet their needs for information and co-operation.
Who should attend?
Senior managers and technologists from UK business, policy makers, academics and service providers.
Why should I attend?
The Internet is the foundation of current and future communications infrastructure. Everything using the Internet has a unique identifier, its IP address. Most devices on the Internet use IPv4 addresses. However the number of IPv4 addresses which can be issued is drying up and is expected to be exhausted in 1-2 years.
Future growth of the Internet will then depend on wide use of IPv6 addresses. These are unlikely to ever run out. Although some organisations have started to plan and deploy IPv6 in their network, much remains to be done. Everyone using the Internet today needs to prepare for the introduction of IPv6 before the crunch point when no more IPv4 addresses will be available.
